Those of you who know me well, will know that I have been a Matt Monro fan since the early 1960's when I bought his recording of 'Walk Away'. My time as a Hospital Radio Presenter gave me the opportunity of playing most all of his recordings and the most popular requested song, in my experience, has been 'Born Free' the song featured in the film of the same name. Matt was one of the top three singers in the world and his vocal talents were recognised by both Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra as well as many many others. You may already know that it was Winifred Atwelll who first brought Matt into the limelight but if you would like to read all of the history that surrounds this wonderful singer, then I urge you to buy the new book, written by his daughter Michele.
